Veeder is named for the German Presbyterian pastor, Peter Veeder who is buried in Tulocay Cemetery in the city of Napa. Veeder sub-appellation in the southern part of the Mayacamas mountains, a short drive from the city of Napa.
Hess was not the first Swiss vintner in Napa Valley with that last name reference Frederick Hess, the founder of La Jota Vineyard Company on Howell Mountain.
Hess Persson Estates opened to the public in 1989 (their first release was 1976) and was founded by Swiss born businessman Donald Hess (died in early 2023 at his home in Switzerland) and his wife Ursula.
